"Familiar faces. Makes a place like this almost feel like home... almost. Sometimes I forget Allen and Garnett are two people. They showed up at Fort Bragg together and no one has seen them apart since. We just started saying 'Allen-n-Garnett' like it was one word. Even with the damn mis-drops they still managed to stay together."

Walkthrough[]

You start at a dead soldier at the cutscene, it is recommended to switch your pistol with carbine at the corpse. Then, head up to a truck order your men to take cover and suppress the Germans on the road. There will be one enemy coming out the house near you so kill him immediately, but there is one German in the house. Before you deal with him, you have to deal with the enemies in front. You can do it either by suppress the both teams or kill them with an aimed shot, it is recommended to kill off the front team since there are no flank on them. Once they are suppressed, quickly go to the window or at the side of the house depending the enemy location to kill him, be careful as he can shoot back.

You can leave the back team behind or finish them off. Either way, head to the left where there is a small courtyard and river and 3 Germans. Have your team to suppress the enemy and you can eliminate them by throwing a grenade or flanking them or both. If you didn't eliminate the final team, you can order your team to suppress and flank them.

On the main road, there is a machine gun post, avoid the area and go to a small passage flanking the machine gun. There will be Germans blocking your way, you can eliminate them while they are coming for cover. If they are in cover, use the 4 Fs and flank them on your left path, be careful of machine gun fire. Continue your path to find Germans well covered, shoot any German that are exposed before your team suppress. It is advised not to flank since you will be exposed to the machine gun crew, thus it is best to throw a grenade or risk moving closer to the enemy to kill as he got out of cover.

Have your team or yourself kill the machine gun crew, but you will have another machine gun blocking your way along a team opposite of your position. Have your team suppress so it is easy for you too cross. Be careful with the machine gun. It is also recommended to move your team across but only if the team opposite is suppressed. Kill the team since it is flanked and then kill the machine gun crew. The main road is cleared.

Next you have to go to the new area and face 2 teams approaching for cover. Have your team to suppress the 2 teams and try to shoot one of them off, flank through a path to a road, leading to the enemy's rear and kill them. Next, head to a church where you will encounter Germans, wait for your team to reach you and assault the enemy. The last team is behind the church where you can use the 4Fs or just flank and kill with your team.

Head to the machine gun post and order your men to take cover behind sandbags. A wave of Germans will come either from the main road or through the fence. Just kill them all and if some of the enemy pass through your line of fire, your team will handle it.

The last action will be when the Germans starts to fire the mortar, it will destroy the fence, allowing access to attack the mortar. You can order your men to charge or move to a cover which flank the crew, avoid mortar fire at all costs and throw a grenade and either actions. There will be another mortar crew on the east of the previous one, eliminate them and the battlefield is clear. Follow the arrow to meet with Mac to end the chapter.

Col. Antal's Field Training Exercise for Gearbox - Authentic[]

Col

Long before production, the Gearbox team goes on a Field Training Exercise (FTX) with Col. John Antal to learn about real soldering.

Col

The game developers were required to gather gear, suit up and set up camp under the direction and pressure of a US Army Colonel and a US Army Major.

Col

Major Pete Petraka instructs the team in squad communications and hand signals consistent with the fundamental concepts of fire and move tactics.

Col

The Gearbox team then ran battle drills and learned standard operating procedures for setting up firing lines with small units.

Col

Every part of an infantry soldier experience was covered in the FTX. Digging fox-holes proved to be completely un-fun and is therefore not simulated in the game.

Col

Squad tactics involve fire - shooting at the enemy to suppress them in place. The developers fought with paintball weapons using the training they had.

Col

As the enemy is suppressed, an assault team can move to flank and kill them. Gearbox developers learned how to outflank a real opposing force.

Col

The FTX provided Gearbox developers with the tools they needed to create an authentic and entertaining squad combat experience.
